The air permeability method uses an air pump to drive air through the particles stack up inside a sample tube. In this method, the particles are compacted in the sample tube. Particles will have some resistance to this air flow, and the air permeability will be different. Laser diffraction is to use laser to illuminate the particles. In this method, the particles are usually suspended in water or other agent, some are suspended in the air. The medium will produce diffraction (scattering) phenomenon for this kind of illumination, and the diffraction signal angle will be different. Both techniques capture this difference for analysis. Both are common methods for particle size analysis of powders.Fisher Model 95 Sub-Sieve Sizer
